Due to overwhelming(we're just exaggerating) song requests, there is a huge possibilty that the 'ZineZone website may lag badly, so to allow you people to continue requesting but to lessen the number of songs, we will have only one genre for a fornight. Instead of having pop,rock,dance etc all at one shot, we will limit it to only one genre(e.g dance) for two weeks, before we change the genre. COVER STORY: JUNE HOLS=MORE STUDYING!!!

The title says it all. The Primary sixers would not be having a very fun school holiday. Sure, some of us may be going overseas, but there's still the 'PSLE'S LESS THAN 4 MONTHS AWAY!!!!' thingy hovering in the air. Right now, everyone's just focusing on the big exam and going to secondary schools. Why are you people letting them run your life? Yeah, sure, education's important, but what about your friends, the world, and other stuff not related to academic? Don't get us wrong. We're not saying that you should go out with your friends all day and just cease studying. What we're saying is, STUDY SMART. Don't just stare at your maths assesment paper for 4 hours even though you're really sleepy. It won't work, 'cos your brain can't function when it's tired!!! That's right, your formulas will just be coming in and going out. So stop trying to act like you're running an 8-hour study-marathon, 'COS YOU'RE WASTING YOUR TIME. To make life easier for us and you, here's some tips on how to study smart.

Set a ratio of your study time to your break time, and stick to it. E.g 31/2 : 1(in hours)

If you're feeling really sleepy or tired, don't continue to study. You're brain is like a storage room, once its full, it can't store any thing else unless you 'clean it out' (get some sleep and be refreshed.)

Don't focus all your energy on your weakest subject, you still need to care about your others. Again, organise a suitable ratio. E.g(if science is your weakest and chinese is your strongest and your other subjects are averge, and you study for 5 hours.) Science:English:Maths:Chinese

2 1/2: 1 : 1 : 1/2

If you really can't grasp a new concept or simply suck at a subject, organise a study session with your friend(s). It's best if you have two friends(or more) who are about the same standard as you, and two friends(or more) who are a higher standard than you.

You should know by know what's the key to aceing certain subects. A quick guide is: English-reading, Maths- practicing, Science- understanding and analysing, Chinese- reading and listening in class!

JUNE HOLIDAY RECIPE (EXCLUSIVE!)

Chocolate Crunchies(These are really easy to make and taste good too! To get an exact Kit Kat effect, use Cadbury milk chocolate)

Ingredients:

180-200 g milk/dark chocolate
50-60 g unsalted/salted butter
3-5 tbls golden syrup(tweak according to how sweet you want the crunchies to be, put less if you're using milk choclate)
75-100 g of rice krispies

Melt the butter and choclate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water. Or boil some water, turn off the heat, sit a heatproof bowl on top of it, pop the choclate and butter in the bowl, and ensure that the bowl does not touch the hot water. Don't panic is mixture looks slightly thick. If it does, you can add a bit more melted butter, but that's not neccesary. Add the golden syrup and rice krispies, and mix. Drop chunks of the mixture on a plate, or into cupcake papers, and chill for at least 45 minutes. Keep in the fridge so chocolate does not melt.

Katjes gummies are GOOOD! And they have released 5 new ones(not really new, but not really old either): Mixed berry, blackcurrant, apple, raspberry and lemon. The Berry Dessert(Mixed berries) are really really really good. I could probably eat those the whole day. They're soft yet chewy and taste like juicy berries being dipped in a creamy, yoghurty thing! The blackcurrant one is okay, but they taste like Ribena fruit pastilles without the sprinkling of sugar. I haven't tried the other flavours, but I think they'll be nice. They're $2.95 for one packet at NTUC, but $4.05 at 7-11. That's like a whole dollar more expensive!

Cover Story: Its April Fool's Day!

April Fool's Day. Every pranksters dream day. What's the worst prank any of you have pulled before? Dumped a bucket of worms on your enemy's head? Placed a fake lizard in your partner's bag? Placed a whoopee cushion on your teacher's chair? Well, whatever prank it was, I think the best part at the end of the day was the reaction of the poor victim. I mean, c'mon, your nemesis with his/her mouth so wide open you could stuff your fist inside, a wriggly, slimy insect dangling off his/her foeehead? Priceless! But of course, there are times when you may go a little too far, and your victim ends up crying. Hey, that can happen. And I'm not surprised if it does. You people nowadays have minds so active and overimaginitive you think you live in a world like Tom and Jerry's where even if a fridge falls on you you'll simply end up with a sore head. But enough of 'what if's'. Let's go back to time for a while, and find out how April Fool's Day came about...

There is much debate about how this wacky festival came about, but it is likely a remnant of the once common festivies vernal equinox, which started on old New Year's day, 25th March, and ended on 2nd April. In some countries, people who were fooled have special names. One example is in France, where the victim is known as poisson d'avril, or April fish. This is because in April, the sun quits the zodiacal sign of the fish. One strange prank was when the Dutch television news broadcast that the Tower of Pisa had fallen over in the 1950's. Many people contacted the station. Another funny prank was when radio station KITS in San Francisco changed its call letters to 'KGAY' for an hour and played gay-theme songs in 1998. Wonder if gays listening to that radio back then were pissed.

Here's a 'cupcake' recipe that's sure to satisfy your sweet tooth! (At least, that's what you think)
RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
~~Meat Loaf~~ Cupcake:
1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1 cup grated Monterey Jack cheese(or just tasty cheese)
3 tablespoons ketchup
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon celery salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
~~Potato~~ Frosting:
3 cups mashed potatoes
Food coloring
1. Heat the oven to 375 degrees. Line 12 muffin tin cups with foil bake cups. 2. In a large bowl, mix together all of the meat loaf ingredients until well combined. Divide the mixture evenly among the lined cups (the liners should be about three quarters full). 3. Place the filled muffin tins on cookie sheets and bake the cupcakes for about 15 minutes or until cooked through. 4. Divide the mashed potatoes among three small bowls and stir a few drops of food coloring into each batch to create blue, yellow, and pink pastel frostings. Spread a generous dollop on each cupcake. Makes 12 cupcakes.

Cover Story: What's up with Technology?

Technology's a big part of the world now. In fact, if you are reading this, you are using technology.

There's nothing wrong the technology. It helps us in many ways!

Helpful:

1. Handphone

2. Ipod/MP3/MP4

3. Internet

Just 3. Why helpful?

Handphone -> if you are lost, you can contact your parents.

Ipod/MP3/MP4 -> on long road trips if you are bored, you can go and listen to songs.

Internet -> You can chat with your friends (MSN) and you can read this blog!

However, technology can harm you too.

Harmful:

1. Handphone

2.Ipod/MP3/MP4

3. Internet

Wow. They are the same things. Why unhelpful/harmful?

Handphone -> You may get too addicted to the games or something.

Ipod/MP3/MP4 -> sometimes, if you listen to the songs for too long, and too loudly, your sense of hearing may deprove.

Internet -> very simple. Addiction to games.

So, technology is both harmful and helpful. You can choose whether you want to use it to be helpful or harmful. For handphones, you can play games, just don't get too addicted. For Ipod/Mp3/mp4, you can put the volume a little lower. For Internet, don't get too addicted too. Also, remember to rest your eyes!

~~Study tips~~: STUFF TO DO DURING YOUR SCHOOL BREAK!!!! (Don't worry, we're not gonna add that it's only for one week)

#1. Organise a S-L-E-E-P-O-V-E-R! C'mon, what else? Okay, boys, you can have sleepovers too! Just replace fluffy pink pillows, bottles of nail polish, and lots of giggles with hard, 'macho' cotton stuffed cloths(with Jessica Alba printed on the pillow covers, of course!),game CD's and bloody brawls! And, it'll be cool to also organise an outing the day after the sleepover, like to the mall or something. (Or maybe, a surprise visit to your crush's house. Um, yes, we ARE joking.)

#2. Create a scrapbook. Wait, this sounds like something girls do, not boys. OOPS, yes, I'm sorry, creating a scrapbook is a girly thing. Anyway, girls, creating a scrapbook is way fun! Just get a scrapbook(obvious, ain't it?), some coloured pens/markers, and lotsa magazine cutouts/photos/random pictures! Oh, and yeah, scissors and glue, of course. So next time you're bored, you can just flip through your scrapbook, and laugh over the stuff you see!

#3. Visit youtube and watch lotsa wacky videos that'll make you laugh so hard you'll split your sides! I'm serious, some of the videos are so crazy, so weird, and so outrageous, that they'll make you think 'Am I too normal for good?'. Japanese stuff are especially funny, and I am not surprised, since they are kinda known for their daring behaviour. Here are some people/groups whose videos you might be interested in:Chris Crocker, Madtv, Happyslip, Japanese game shows.

#4. Look through all your magazines, toys, CD's etc and dig out those that you do not want anymore but are still in good condition and sell them! This may not sound very fun, but it passes time quickly, and I'm sure you'll be surprised at how much junk(but in good condition) you have. You can either sell them on Yahoo auctions, The Strait Time(Young classifieds), or maybe to your friends. You may get the extra cash you need, and you'll also be rid of that while chunk of mess in your bedroom.

#5. Arrange a family day! Okay, I'm not gonna get started on that 'youngsters nowadays don't spend much time with their family' crap because I believe that sometimes, we are just real busy, and obviously we can't share stuff like crushes or stupid teachers with our parents. But, maybe organising a trip to Vivocity or bowling with your family will do both you and your parents(if you have siblings, than they too)good. I mean, sometimes, your parents will understand you because they were your age once. It's just that you may find it hard to believe that your mom once got addicted to a popstar, and your dad once sang along to groovy tunes.(The Beatles, perhaps?) So, try to balance the time you spend between your friends and parents. After all, without them, there'd be no you. ;)

Well, actually, not really. 50 cent just thinks that, if Britney can say the word 'bitch' on her song(Gimme More, from her album, Blackout)and not get it censored, then why can't he? He recently released his newest video for his song, 'I Still Will'. BUT, he says that the original title for his song was 'I'll Still Kill'. Guess I wouldn't be very happy too, if I had to change the tile of my song because of some purposes. Which sound quite biased, it seems. Because, 50-cent also added, that no one had a problem with his newest project(with Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Donnie Wahlberg)which is called 'Righteous Kill'. But, his song had to be changed to a more, let's say, appropriate title. Oh well, in life, not everything will go your way!

Valentine's Day: Love's in the air!

Valentine's Day was yesterday, on Thursday, February 14. Guys were handing over bouquets of flowers and heart-shaped candy, girls had huuuuuge grins pasted on their faces from being showered and pampered with the attention her boyfriend was giving her, and, well, Cupid was having his busiest day ever!Most of us think that valentine's day is only about spending more time with your sweetheart or letting your crush know that you're so into him/her, but do you actually know how this romantic occasion came about? Well, I'm clueless too, that's why I did some research, and here's what I found out:(adapted from www.wikipedia.org)

Valentine's Day, or Saint Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on 14 February. In North America and Europe, it is a traditional day where sweethearts express their romantic interest(or love) for each other by sending Valentine's cards, presenting flowers or offering candy. This holiday is named after two Christian matyrs named Valentine.(I wonder what would have happened if they were named 'Hayte' or 'Kiel'?) The day became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages when the tradition of courtly love flourished.(I assume that sweet whispers were rarely communicated before then.) A few of the valentine symbols includes red roses(what a pity, I like roses to be white), love knots and lovebirds.

Here's a recipe that maybe you would like to try out. Hope it'll be a success! (From: http://www.recipezaar.com/286247)

Ingredients
Cupcakes:
1 1/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup margarine
2 medium eggs
2 1/3 cups self raising flour (cake flour)
6-9 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk , mixed with
1 teaspoon vinegar
2 tablespoons red food coloring
1 teaspoon vinegar
Filling:
300 ml whipped cream or
500 ml cream
to taste icing sugar (optional) or cocoa (optional) or candy sprinkles (optional)
Directions:
1)Preheat the oven to 180 c / 350°F.
2)In a large bowl, beat the sugar, margarine & eggs until creamy. Add the food colouring, milk mixed with vinegar + the other tsp of vinegar & set aside.
3)Into another bowl, sift the dry ingredients.
4)Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry, mixing very well to incorporate.
5)Line bun / cupcake trays with paper cases & carefully fill 1/2 - 3/4 way full. Place in oven.
6)After 14 minutes, turn the tray around then continue cooking for 4 minutes. Check they're done with a toothpick & allow to cool on thge side.
7)Once cooled, cut a circular piece out of the top. Fill the hole with whipped or squirty cream. Take the circular piece & cut in half - place on top of the cream to look like a kiss!

Cover story: How much do you like yourself?
Everyone knows that no one is perfect. But you don’t actually have to hate yourself. Everyone has qualities to show off. Like, for instance, your straight hair? Or your nice eyes? Sure, sometimes you look in the mirror, and think: “Why can’t I look more like this? Why can’t I look more like that?” It’s natural. But, its not natural, when you hate your looks that you think of undergoing plastic surgery 24/7. Sure, looks are important, but they are not THAT important, and I can easily name you three celebs that are gorgeous now but looked like total geeks when they were young. And I can even show you pictures to prove it. So, have some self-esteem. Don’t just concentrate on your bad points, but focus on your good ones. Please, I’m not trying to sound like some long-winded counselor. I just want to let you guys know: LOVE YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!! THEN YOU WOUDN’T BE SO STRESSED AND START SLEEP-WALKING!!!! Yes, completely irrelevant, I know, but trust me, it all makes sense. Eventually.

Reviews: Food
Two new canteen stalls just opened, and it looks like one of them, the Fusion stall, is raking in lots of money. Everyday since school reopened, it has been jam-packed with pupils. I ate its Teriyaki Chicken rice today for lunch, and found it quite nice. But I wasn’t too happy with its price. $1.30 for a small bowl that’s half-filled? Not cheap. The teriyaki chicken was nice, didn’t have much fats. ;) I liked the sweet sauce. But the other new stall, Fun Grains, doesn’t seem to have many customers. Many complained that there was little variety. Yeah, the previous store seemed to have sold much more items. Fusion also sells whipped potato, which is basically mashed potatoes that taste like their from KFC. Everyone seems to be lovin’ Fusion, but will it’s customers get fed up with this novelty after some time?

Hey guys! I've created this site, which is basically an online magazine! I decided to start writing my own magazine, and Charlene(one of my best friends) helped me call it ZineZone. The Cover Story: The Big Exam
It’s 2008, and seems like a normal year. But, nope, it’s not a normal year for the Primary sixes. That’s ‘cos this year, they’ll be having their PSLE, aka The Big Exam. Some are scared, while some just don’t care. But one thing’s for sure, everyone wants to get in a good secondary school. Why? Firstly, it’s unlikely for someone to get bashed up in school if they’re in a good one. Secondly, it’s nice to tell someone that you’ve gone into a good school. No one likes to tell the other party that he/she had gone into some lousy neighborhood school. And lastly, a good school means good education, and who doesn’t want to become a smart aleck? Here are some tips to help you guys deal with your stress, which I’m sure will pile up as the months go by…
Tip No. 1: Dance away the blues!! Dancing’s an awesome way to get rid of your stress, plus you may whip up into a shape, as dancing’s kind of an exercise.
Tip No. 2: Singing’s a great stress-ridder. So, if you’re under pressure, why don’t you just take a break, open your mouth, and let the good times rock ‘n roll? Let’s just hope that your neighbors would enjoy the, um, soothing music.
Tip No. 3: Act! Go find a Shakespeare book, get a scene you like, and act, you future Johnny Depp/ Nicole Kidman! If you have the talent, why not show it off? But, on the other hand…

For the Guys: Backstreet Boys are back! With their hit single, “Inconsolable”. You guys may sneer at listening to Backstreet Boys songs, but actually, there’s nothing to sneer at. They aren’t a boy band, but simply a band making refreshing pop music. With songs dubbed with cool beats and addictive choruses, there’s no need to be embarrassed about listening to Backstreet boys!

For the Gals: Sugarbabes have released their latest album, and I’m lovin’ their tunes! Songs like “Denial” just can’t stop me from singing along, while “Change” makes me feel like relaxing and swaying to the music. And I always feel like dancing to the lyrics when I listen to “About You Now”. So next time you pass by a CD shop and have some extra cash, why not pick up their album? I’m sure you won’t regret it!

Talking about Wildcats, Ashley Tisdale had recently undergone a nose surgery. I can’t blame her though, ‘cos who wants to like an old hag? Meanwhile, The Cheetah Girls 3 movie would be set in India, Bollywood. Raven Symone will not be starring in the movie. It will be released in the USA in August this year, so keep yours eyes peeled for another Cheetah Girls film late this year/early next year!
